Canadian experts predict a record wheat harvest in 2024

After a 3,500-kilometer tour of the Canadian prairies, MarketsFarm analysts rated the outlook for the grain harvest as stunning.

"If the harvest is successful, then the country can get a record harvest, because now the condition of spring and, especially, durum wheat crops is much better than last year," experts believe.

According to their estimates, the yield of durum wheat will exceed last year by 18 bushels/acre or 1.2 t/ha and reach 44 bushels/acre or 2.96 t/ha, which, given the increase in the sowing area, will allow the production of durum varieties to be resumed and harvest 7 .4 million tons of grain.

The yield of spring wheat will exceed last year by 10 bushels/acre or 6.3 tons/ha and reach 57 bushels/acre or 3.83 tons/ha, which will be a record for Western Canada and will allow a harvest of 27.8 million tons, which on 3.4 million tons will exceed production in 2023.

The experts were most surprised by the absence of diseases on spring wheat crops, since a long rainy period usually leads to an increase in damaged plants.
