Jordan has contracted 50,000 tons of new crop barley at the same price at which it bought the old crop
According to European traders, the Jordanian state procurement agency MIT purchased about 50,000 tons of feed barley of any origin from CHS in an international tender on March 11 for delivery in the first half of July at a price of $261.25/ton C&F.
Barley was also offered at the tender by Bunge (at a price of $266/t C&F), Olam ($264.64/t C&F), Cargill ($273.95/t C&F), Ameropa ($272.9/t C&F), Buildcom ($272.27/t C&F) and Dreyfus ($273/t C&F).
Recall that the MIT agency purchased 50 thousand tons of feed barley (out of the planned 120 thousand tons) from Bunge in an international tender on March 4, with delivery in the second half of June 2026 at a price of $260.5/ton C&F.
The increase in the purchase price is due to the increase in the cost of freight and insurance payments for vessels heading to the Middle East.
In Ukraine, purchase prices for barley during the week remained at the level of 10,900-11,100 UAH/t or $218-220/t with delivery to Black Sea ports.
In the first 8 months of the 2025/26 MY, Ukraine exported only 1.36 million tons of barley (compared to 2.126 million tons last year), so in the next 4 months it could ship another 1 million tons, but this is unrealistic, given the slow pace of exports and low corn prices, so the season's ending stocks will increase.
However, the results of the tender in Jordan indicate that buyers are willing to pay the same prices for the new barley crop as for the old one.
