Jordan contracts 50,000 tons of barley at a higher price than two weeks ago

According to European traders, the Jordanian state grain procurement agency MIT purchased 50,000 tons of feed barley (out of the planned 120,000 tons) from Bunge in an international tender on March 4 for delivery in the second half of June 2026 at a price of $260.5/ton C&F.

Barley was also offered in the tender by CHS at $265.98/t C&F and Cargill at $264.95/t C&F.

We will remind that the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Jordan purchased 50 thousand tons of feed barley from CHS at an international tender on February 18 for delivery in the second half of June at a price of $251.5/ton C&F, and on February 11, it purchased 50 thousand tons of barley from Ameropa for shipment on May 1-15 at a very high price of $284/ton C&F.

The increase in the purchase price is due to the increase in freight costs due to the war in Iran and the cost of insurance payments for vessels heading to the Middle East.

In Ukraine, barley purchase prices have not changed during the week and remain at the level of 10,900-11,000 UAH/t or $220-222/t with delivery to Black Sea ports amid increased competition with European and Australian barley, which is actively offered on the markets due to the record harvest this season , which exceeded last year's by 19%.
