India in 2018 will collect 100 million tons of wheat

Indian experts believe that in 2018 due to favorable weather during the planting season, slight risk of spread of pests and promised in January (ripening period) precipitation of the country will collect 100 million tons of wheat.

currently, the official forecast of production is 97,5 million tons, which is inferior to the crop of 2017 98,38 million tons.

After a drought of 2015 and 2016 India actively imported wheat, and continued to do so in 2017, But protection of the domestic market, the government is preparing to raise the import duty on wheat that uniemozliwic import.

In early November, the import duty on wheat was raised from 10% to 20%. However, as of December 15, Indian farmers planted wheat on 2% of the area less than in the same period a year ago.

Customs rate of 10% did not prevent an active private imports. From April to October, private traders have imported more than 1 million tons of wheat.

India was the main buyer of Ukrainian wheat. Therefore, the increase of import duties will hurt the purchasing price.
