India abolishes duty-free import of peas

India's Ministry of Food and Consumer Affairs has announced the cessation of duty-free imports of yellow peas after February 28, 2025.

Recall that in December 2023, the Indian government allowed duty-free imports of yellow peas into the country, and then extended the permit period three times, the last time until February 28, 2025.

In 2024, India imported 6.7 million tons of legumes, of which about 3 million tons were yellow peas.

The fall in demand for peas from India will sharply reduce export demand for peas in Ukraine, so we should not expect an increase in prices for this crop in the near future.
