India extends current yellow pea import regime for another year
The Indian government has extended the current import regime for yellow peas (HS Code 07131010) for another year (until March 31, 2027). The existing conditions remove restrictions on ports of delivery and minimum import price, but retain a 10% customs duty and an additional 20% Agricultural Infrastructure and Development Charge (AIDC).
The current import regime will also apply to pigeon peas and mung beans, the import of which remains duty-free.
The Indian Association of Grain and Pulse Producers and Importers supported the government's decision, as it "will ensure the long-term stability of the industry."
Ukrainian pea exporters can expect continued stable demand from India, although increased competition with Russian peas remains the main factor putting pressure on export prices.
Last season, the Russian Federation became the world's largest producer and exporter of peas, overtaking Canada, and is now pursuing an aggressive export policy, displacing Ukrainian peas from the Indian market and Canadian peas from China.
