Hydrometeorological Center predicts a shortage of moisture in Ukraine in the spring

In recent years, Ukraine has seen a tendency to reduce the amount of winter precipitation. Mixed Precipitation began to fall more and more often – not only snow or sleet, but sometimes rain. Such diversity does not have very positive consequences both for crops and for the hydrological situation in the country as a whole, " said Tatiana Adamenko, head of the Agrometeorology department of the Hydrometeorological center of Ukraine.

This year, soil moisture reserves are also lower than we would like, especially in the southern regions. This is due to a lack of precipitation in January and the first decade of February, " T. Adamenko said. She predicts that in the north-eastern and north-western regions on February 17-18 and in the last days of the month there will be light precipitation, while in the southern and eastern regions precipitation is not expected. Therefore, it is better to plan sowing earlier, while the soil has moisture reserves, and the temperatures of the usually cold period at this time are much higher than normal.

According to forecasts, this year spring will start almost a month earlier than the average for many recent years. However, do not expect a very warm March, because spring frosts will definitely return, if not in April, then in May.
