The European Union is increasing the import of oil crops and reducing the export of cereals

According to the European Commission, in the 2024/25 FY (as of December 8), the EU increased the import of oil crops and reduced the export of grain crops compared to the corresponding period of the previous season.

 

Thus, compared to 2023/24 MR, imports increased:

  • rapeseed - by 3% to 2.6 million tons, of which 1.8 million tons were delivered from Ukraine, 474 thousand tons from Australia and 113 thousand tons from Canada;
  • soybeans - by 11% to 5.6 million tons, of which 2.4 million tons were delivered from Brazil, 2.3 million tons from the USA, 570 thousand tons from Ukraine;
  • sunflower - by 20% to 295,000 tons, of which 180,000 tons were delivered from Moldova, 44,000 tons from Serbia, and 24,000 tons from Ukraine;
  • corn - by 11% to 8.8 million tons, of which 4.7 million tons were delivered from Ukraine, 1.6 million tons from Brazil and 1.3 million tons from the USA.

 

At the same time, the import of sunflower oil to the EU in 2024/25 MR decreased by 14% to 897 thousand tons, of which 840 thousand tons were supplied from Ukraine.

 

At the same time, the export of grain crops decreased compared to the corresponding period of the previous season, in particular:

  • wheat - by 29% to 10.2 million tons, of which 1.7 million tons were delivered to Nigeria, 999 thousand tons - to Morocco, 803 thousand tons - to Great Britain, 691 thousand tons - to Egypt and 683 thousand tons - to Algeria ;
  • barley - by 35% to 2 million tons, of which 502,000 tons were delivered to Saudi Arabia, 306,000 tons to China, and 262,000 tons to Algeria.
