The European Commission promises to support exports through the Danube ports, while the Russian Federation continues to attack them

On the night of September 26, the Russian Federation attacked Ukraine's Danube ports with drones for 2 hours. In the Izmail district, the port infrastructure was hit, as a result of which warehouses, a checkpoint, about 30 trucks were damaged, 6 trucks were engulfed in flames, but were extinguished by firefighters, and 2 drivers were injured.

Against the backdrop of the attacks on the Reni and Izmail ports, the European Commission promises to increase the volume of transportation of Ukrainian grain to foreign markets, in particular by rail, river and road transport, in order to make the most of the potential of the Danube transport hub. This was stated by European Commissioner for Transport Adina Velyan on September 25 during a press conference on the results of negotiations with the Deputy Prime Minister for the Reconstruction of Ukraine O. Kubrakov.

"We discussed the attacks on the ports of Reni and Ismail, as a result of which some facilities were disabled, which complicates our task. On the other hand, there are not only Ukrainian ports on the Danube. We are studying the possibilities of the whole Danube cluster, in particular the ports of Romania, and the use of the Sulin channel to improve the capabilities of the port of Constanta, and we are also discussing the measures that need to be taken," said the European Commissioner.

She believes that one of such measures implemented in cooperation with Ukraine is the creation of conditions for simplifying control and other procedures when crossing borders. An example is the strategy for the development of border points between Ukraine and Romania, which allows for improved operations on all transport "modules", including railways, barges or trucks.

In turn, O. Kubrakov noted that Ukraine is grateful to the European Commission and the Romanian government for their help, as the Danube is the main export route. According to him, in view of the constant attacks, grain traders are trying to organize delivery directly by ship, avoiding the storage of grain in the port to minimize the risks of its destruction.
