Export demand for barley in Ukraine remains low, and Turkey's purchases of Russian and Romanian barley confirm that prices will not receive support in the near future

On September 30, the Turkish state procurement agency TMO purchased 255,000 tons of barley at a price of $248.9–257.57/ton CFR (depending on the port) for delivery between October 9 and November 7, 2025. According to Atria Brokers, the barley was purchased from the Russian Federation and Romania, while sellers from Ukraine lost the competition due to high offer prices.

In Ukraine, export demand prices for feed barley remain at a stable level of 10,100-10,150 UAH/t or 210-215 $/t with delivery to Black Sea ports, so the prices of export offers from traders are 228-230 $/t FOB, which, with delivery costs to Turkey at 20 $/t, makes Ukrainian barley uncompetitive in the Black Sea region. Therefore, we should not expect further growth in demand prices for barley in the near future.

The increase in demand prices for feed corn and wheat to 9700-9800 UAH/t with delivery to the port provides support to barley prices and keeps them from declining.

Ukraine exported 208 thousand tons of barley in September (205 thousand tons in September 2024), and in total in the season (as of September 29) - 799 thousand tons, which is 65% lower than the corresponding figure last year (1.32 million tons).

Demand for malting barley in Ukraine also remains low due to the lack of available storage capacity at malting plants and a decline in demand and prices for malt.
