Experts predict increased demand and higher prices for barley in Ukraine

"At the moment, the demand for barley in Ukraine remains quite high, and the volume of offers is low, and after January 15, we can expect the activation of the market and an increase in prices", - predict the experts of the analytical center of the agricultural cooperative "PUSK" created under the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council.

For January, 150-160 thousand tons of Ukrainian barley has already been contracted, in particular with delivery to Italy, Spain, and China. Among fodder grains, barley is currently the most attractive for importers due to its price. In January, Ukraine exports at least 150-160 thousand tons, and maybe even 200 thousand tons of grain, although even in the pre-war period there were no such sales in January. Demand for barley will also remain high in February.

Barley stocks in Ukraine as of January 1 reached 3.5-3.6 million tons, and on February 1 they may amount to 3.2 million tons, which will be enough for active trade.

Prices are $145-150/t with delivery from SRT-Odesa. At the same time, processors offer 4,400-4,700 hryvnias/t for barley, but in fact no one sells it at such a price. Experts believe that by the end of the week, prices will reach UAH 5,000-5,200/ton, and in case of further growth of the dollar, they may rise to UAH 6,100/ton.

It is also expected that after January 15, the European Union will intensify the purchase of Ukrainian barley and will contract for February and March. And against the background of increased demand, prices for barley will also gradually increase.
