Experts MARS again cut production forecasts for the EU

because of the drought in Europe in July and August in the new monthly report, the experts of the European Commission, MARS has reduced the forecast of grain production and oilseeds. Arid phenomena persist in the East and in the centre of Germany and Western Poland, while in southern Europe maize yields will be high enough.

In comparison with the previous report, the forecast average yield of maize in the EU decreased by 1.1% to 7.49 t/ha.

it is Expected that in comparison with last year the production of maize in Germany will be reduced by 50%, Belgium 22% France – 16%, and the average yield will decrease by 4.6%, which is still 2.6% higher than the average 5-year average.

assessment of the average yield of sunflower relative to the previous report, decreased by 1.6% to 2.41 t/ha, while total production in comparison with the previous year reduced by France 17%, Germany 16%, Romania – by 8.4%.

Assessment of yield of barley per month decreased from 4.71 t/ha to 4.69 t/ha, which is 4.3% below the average 5-year rate, the yield of spring barley decreased from 4.07 to 4.05 t/ha, which is 4.7% below the average 5-year level.

Forecast yield of soft wheat was left at the level of 5.7 t/ha, which is 4.5% less than the average 5-year index.

In early August, the drought corn prices in the EU rose to 194 €/t, however, after better weather and the increase in forecasts of corn production in the US fell to 176,5 €/t or 206,2 $/t

In the September report, the experts, the USDA estimated corn production in the EU in the current season at 60.8 million tonnes, down from 62,2 million tons in the past MG and imports of maize in the EU at 19.5 million tonnes against 18 million tonnes in 2017/18 MG and 15 million tonnes in 2016/17 MG.
