Egypt sharply increased soybean imports from the US and reduced supplies from Ukraine in 2025

According to Oil World (Germany), in the first 8 months of this year, Egypt imported 2.9 million tons of soybeans, which is 1 million tons more than the corresponding figure for 2024.

The increase in supplies was facilitated by low prices for soybeans, especially American ones. Therefore, during the indicated period, the United States doubled its soybean supplies to Egypt, to 2.2 million tons, crowding out Brazil and Ukraine on the market.

However, a sharp increase in soybean processing by Egypt reduced the need for soybean meal imports, which halved to 200,000 tons during October - July 2024/25 MY. First of all, supplies from Argentina decreased.

Against the backdrop of China's refusal to purchase American soybeans, they are being offered at a significant discount in the traditional markets for Ukrainian soybeans, the EU and Egypt. And this trend will continue this season.
