In 2024, Egypt imported more than 10 million tons of wheat

According to customs data, Egypt imported 10.8 million tons of wheat during January-September 2024 (8.3 million tons in the same period last year), of which 8 million tons were delivered from the Russian Federation and 1.5 million tons from Ukraine.

It will be recalled that Egypt plans to reduce wheat imports and partially replace them with sorghum and corn in order to reduce the costs of subsidized bread.

At the same time, the other day, the state-owned Egyptian grain operator GASC concluded one of the largest direct agreements for the monthly supply of batches of 510,000 tons of Black Sea wheat during November 2024 - April 2025.
