Due to bad weather, more than 11 thousand wagons with grain have accumulated in the queue at the ports of Greater Odessa

According to the Port Station Operator branch, adverse weather conditions complicated the unloading of wagons at the ports, as a result of which 11.01 thousand wagons with grain accumulated in the direction of the ports of Greater Odessa.

In total, the branch currently has 6,210 wagons with grain, including 1,390 wagons directly at the ports. Today, 691 wagons are planned to be unloaded.

"At the beginning of the week, unloading was delayed by air alarms, now it depends only on the weather. Yesterday there was rain, sleet and frost, and at night there was snowfall, so only 300 cars were unloaded during the day. The switch points, tracks and contact network are currently being cleaned, after which it will be possible to return to normal operation and increase unloading," the branch representative said.

Until last week, the average daily loading of wagons was 1,170 wagons, and unloading was 1,120 wagons.

Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Work of UZ V. Tkachev considers the accumulation of 11 thousand cars almost critical, although it is due to a certain combination of factors: a sharp increase in the load to 1.6 t of cars/day (almost 100 thousand tons of cargo), adverse weather conditions, constant air alarms and damage to the sorting station in Odessa. To reduce the queue, it is necessary to increase the rate of unloading cargo to 1.5 thousand cars/day.
