The share of agricultural products in Ukraine's exports in January-March 2025 reached 58%

According to the State Customs Service, during January-March 2025, Ukraine imported goods worth $18.5 billion and exported $9.9 billion, so the trade deficit amounted to $8.6 billion.

The main import categories (68%) for the indicated period were:

  • machinery, equipment and transport — $6.8 billion,
  • chemical industry products — $3.2 billion,
  • fuel and energy - $2.5 billion.

While the main export categories were:

  • food products — $5.8 billion (58%),
  • metals and products made from them — $1.1 billion,
  • machinery, equipment and transport — $882 million.

The largest suppliers of goods to Ukraine were China ($3.9 billion), Poland ($1.7 billion) and Germany ($1.5 billion), and the buyers were Poland ($1.1 billion), Italy ($680 million) and Spain ($650 million).

In March, exports of Ukrainian products amounted to $3.6 billion, which exceeded the figure for March 2024 by 4% or $87 million. In particular, 5.4 million tons of agricultural products were shipped for $2.1 billion, which amounted to 58% of total exports.

The main categories of agricultural exports were:

  • corn — 2.4 million tons worth $514 million,
  • sunflower oil — 441 thousand tons worth $503 million,
  • wheat — 1.1 million tons worth $254 million,
  • soybeans — 370 thousand tons worth $150 million,
  • poultry meat - 41 thousand tons worth $95 million.

The increase in export volumes was facilitated by the preservation of strong positions in the export structure of more marginal goods - sunflower oil, soybeans, and poultry meat, as well as the general increase in prices for agricultural products.

Ukraine's main trading partners in March were Turkey ($270.8 million), Italy ($171.1 million), Spain ($170.4 million), Egypt ($162.4 million) and the Netherlands ($121.6 million).

"The agricultural sector remains the pillar of the Ukrainian economy in wartime, providing more than half of the country's foreign exchange earnings and demonstrating the high competitiveness of its products on the world market, and the Ministry is consistently working to diversify sales markets and expand the export potential of the processing industry," noted the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine V. Koval.

Average export prices for basic commodities in March 2025 per ton were: corn – $215, sunflower oil – $1,141, wheat – $225, soybeans – $407, poultry meat – $2,300. Such price conditions on world markets contributed to an increase in the value of Ukrainian agricultural exports.
