Brazil increased corn production to 115 million tons and became the world's second largest exporter
According to the USDA WASDE forecast, in the 2026/27 MY, Brazil will increase corn production compared to the previous season by 8% from 106.5 to 115 million tons, which will be 25% higher than the average for 2015-2024 (92 million tons). The area sown is expected to increase by 3.3% to 25 million hectares, and the average yield by 5% from 4.4 to 4.6 t/ha. Domestic consumption will increase by 3.2% to 64 million tons, and exports by 15% from 48 to 55 million tons, which will make the country the second largest corn exporter in the world after the United States.
Major producing states will increase corn production compared to the previous season:
- Mato Grosso – by 9.7% from 32.1 to 35.2 million tons,
- Parana – by 5.2% from 24.8 to 26.1 million tons,
- Minas Gerais – by 7.6% from 18.4 to 19.8 million tons,
- São Paulo – by 6.3% from 14.2 to 15.1 million tons,
- Goiás – by 9.1% from 12.1 to 13.2 million tons,
- Rio Grande do Sul – by 6.7% from 8.9 to 9.5 million tons,
- Mato Grosso do Sul – by 8.3% from 7.2 to 7.8 million tons,
- Tocantins – by 9.8% from 5.1 to 5.6 million tons.
The states of Mato Grosso and Paraná collectively increased production by 4.3 million tons, accounting for 54% of the total production increase in Brazil.
Brazil exports corn mainly to Asia (China, Philippines, Vietnam), but has begun to increase exports to the EU amid reduced supplies from Ukraine. Increased production and exports of corn from Brazil are reducing the supply deficit on the world market, especially against the backdrop of the blockade of exports from Ukraine's Black Sea ports.
