Brazil increased its consumption of soybean oil for biodiesel production

According to ANP, in 2025, total soybean oil consumption in Brazil increased due to its active use in biodiesel production.

Thus, during January-August 2025, the use of soybean oil for biofuel production increased compared to the corresponding period in 2024 from 3.75 to 4.19 million tons, and biodiesel production increased by 0.39 million tons to 5.55 million tons due to an increase in the share of soybean oil in biodiesel to 75%, as supplies of other types of oils were limited, Oil World reports.

The increase in requirements for biofuel content in diesel fuel to 15% (B15), introduced in August, led to a 10% reduction in soybean oil exports from Brazil in July-September 2025. The transition to B15 is expected to lead to further growth in domestic demand for soybean oil in October-March 2025/26 MY.

At the same time, the increase in the impurity rate to 16% (B16), planned for March 2026, may be delayed due to a shortage of raw materials and high prices for soybean oil.
