The farmers' association sharply lowered the harvest forecasts for Germany

Against the background of prolonged adverse weather conditions, the Association of Farmer Cooperatives in Germany has significantly lowered its forecast for the 2024 harvest, Reuters reports.

In some regions, the harvest has started very early, but incessant rains are delaying work and reducing harvest potential, while dry and sunny weather is needed to produce good quality grain.

According to the association's forecast, in 2024 the harvest of the main crops will decrease compared to the previous season:

  • wheat - by 6.2% to 20.2 million tons,
  • winter barley - by 5.9% to 9.01 million tons,
  • winter rapeseed - by 10% to 3.8 million tons.

At the same time, production will increase:

  • spring barley - by 32.8% to 1.88 million tons,
  • corn - by 2.1% to 4.59 million tons.
