Argentina increased sunflower processing volumes by 78% in January
Due to a seasonal reduction in domestic supplies, Argentina in January reduced soybean processing volumes to an 11-month low of 2.72 million tons (compared to 2.91 million tons in January 2025), while increasing sunflower processing by 78% to 323 thousand tons, reports Oil World (Germany).
The reduction in soybean processing led to a decrease in soybean oil exports by 5% to 0.48 million tons and soybean meal by 10% to 2 million tons. Soybean oil stocks in the country decreased to a 7-month low of 180 thousand tons at the end of January.
At the same time, Argentine processors successfully took advantage of significant domestic sunflower stocks and the shortage of sunflower oil and meal on the world market.
Thanks to increased sunflower processing, exports of sunflower meal in January rose to a 4-month high of 168,000 tonnes (105,000 tonnes in January 2025), and in total in the season reached 0.53 million tonnes (compared to 0.35 million tonnes in October-January 2024/25 MY). At the same time, deliveries of meal to the EU increased from 0.21 million tonnes last year (61% of total exports) to 0.36 million tonnes (69%).
Sunflower oil exports in January decreased to 94 thousand tons due to a sharp reduction in stocks at the end of December 2025. But overall in the season it reached a record 0.44 million tons (0.35 million tons in October - January 2024/25 MY), of which 128 (81) thousand tons were delivered to India.
