Argentina Plans to Increase Grain and Oilseed Production by Nearly 10% in the 2024/25 Marketing Year

According to forecasts by analysts from the Rosario Grain Exchange, in the 2024/25 marketing year, under favorable weather conditions, Argentina's total production of grains and oilseeds could reach 143.2 million tons. This is 9% more than in the previous year.

Specifically, the soybean harvest is expected to reach 52.6 million tons compared to 50 million tons in the last season. Sown areas under soybeans may increase by 8% over the year, partially due to a 21% reduction in corn planting areas. Despite this, the gross corn harvest is forecasted at 52 million tons versus 49.5 million tons previously. It is also planned to harvest 20.4 million tons of wheat from an area of 6.7 million hectares, significantly exceeding last year's figure of 14.5 million tons.

Regarding other crops, the barley harvest is expected to be 5.2 million tons, sorghum—3.2 million tons, and sunflower—4.2 million tons.

The total export of these crops could increase to 101.5 million tons, which would be the highest figure in the last four years (in the 2023/24 marketing year, it was 87.9 million tons).

At the same time, analysts caution that if the amount of rainfall is less than expected, the total grain and oilseed production could be closer to 128.8 million tons.
