COCERAL analysts have raised the forecast for wheat harvest in Europe to a record, and barley to a 10-year high

COCERAL, the European trade association for cereals, pulses and oilseeds, animal feed and other agricultural raw materials, has released a new forecast for European grain production in 2025, significantly higher than the June estimate. Wheat and barley yields are expected to be record-breaking, while the forecast for maize has been sharply reduced.

Compared to June estimates, the grain harvest forecast for the EU-27 and the UK has been increased from 300.7 to 306.8 million tonnes, which will significantly exceed the 2024 figure (279.1 million tonnes).

The forecast for wheat production (excluding durum varieties) has been raised from 143.1 to a record 147.4 (125.6 million tons in 2024/25 MY) million tons, as favorable weather in France, Germany, Poland, and southeastern Europe has led to better-than-expected yields.

The forecast for barley production has been increased from 59.2 to 63.8 (57.5) million tons, making it the second largest in the last 10 years.

The forecast for rapeseed production has been increased from 20 to 21.6 (17.9) million tonnes due to a better-than-expected harvest in the North-West of the EU, especially in France.

At the same time, the corn production forecast was reduced from 60.6 to 56.7 (60.2) million tons due to adverse weather conditions in the southeastern regions of the EU.
