Algeria purchased large batches of wheat and barley in tenders

According to market operators, on November 11, the Algerian state grain agency OAIC held an international tender for the purchase of at least 500 thousand tons of food wheat of any origin, where it purchased unannounced volumes of wheat at a price of $263-264/ton C&F with delivery to the port of Mostaganem and $270-271/ton C&F with delivery to the port of Tenes.

Traders believe that the requirement for wheat to arrive at only two ports indicates a relatively small volume of purchases. Later, information appeared that the volume of purchases amounted to 150-170 thousand tons.

It is expected that most of the contracted wheat will be supplied from the EU countries and the Black Sea region, and should be delivered to the buyer between December 1, 2020 and February 15, 2026. If the wheat is supplied from Australia or South America, the delivery date is moved up a month earlier.

The OAIC also held a successful tender for the purchase of a similar volume of feed barley with delivery to the above ports during December 2025 - February 2026 at a price of $263-264.5/t C&F, but the volume of the purchase is also not announced.
