Algeria purchased 720,000 tons of wheat at a tender price of $25/ton more than in June

Algeria's state grain agency OAIC purchased 540,000-720,000 tonnes of food wheat in an international tender on August 5. The final volume of the purchase has not yet been confirmed, but according to market participants, 720,000 tonnes of wheat were purchased at a price of $289-290/t C&F, which is significantly higher than the price of the previous June tender, which purchased 800,000 tonnes of wheat at a price of $264-265/t C&F.

The tender mainly contracted Romanian and Bulgarian wheat, while Russian wheat, despite its lower price, was not in demand due to buyers' concerns about risks to shipping following recent attacks on Russian ports and merchant ships.

According to the terms of the tender, the purchased wheat must be shipped in three batches between September 15 and October 31, and grain from South America, India, and Australia must be delivered a month earlier.
