Algeria purchased 600 thousand tons of wheat at a tender

Algerian state-owned company OAIS purchased about 600,000 tons of soft wheat of any origin at a tender on October 23 at a price of $258.5/ton C&F, Reuters reports.

Traders believe that most of the wheat will be supplied from the Black Sea region (Romania, Bulgaria, and Ukraine), but do not rule out supplies from Argentina, although it will be too early to ship a new crop from the country in November and December.

French wheat has been excluded from the tender again, despite the lack of an official statement. Amid diplomatic tensions following Paris' recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara, the OAS has been excluding French companies and French grain from its tenders in recent months, although it says it treats all its suppliers equally.

According to the terms of the tender, wheat of European or Black Sea origin must be shipped on December 1-15 and 16-30, and in the case of supplies from South America - a month earlier.

According to traders, French wheat is currently offered at a price of $258.5/t FOB, and Russian and Ukrainian wheat for shipment in December is offered at $226-229/t FOB.
