Algeria purchased 200,000 tons of wheat at a tender for $15-20/ton more than two weeks ago

The Algerian State Grain Agency (OAIC) purchased about 200,000 tons of milling wheat of any origin at an international tender on May 20 at a price of $284-292/ton C&F, Reuters reports.

According to the terms of the tender, wheat of European or Black Sea origin must be shipped on July 1-15, July 16-31, August 1-15, August 16-31, September 1-15, and September 16-30, and wheat from South America or Australia - a month earlier.

The tender requirement to unload wheat only at the ports of Mostaganem and/or Tenes usually means that a relatively small purchase will be made, traders note.

Recall that in an international tender on May 6, the Algerian OAIC contracted about 390-420 thousand tons of wheat, mainly of Black Sea origin, for delivery on July 1-31 at a price of $270/ton C&F. And in a previous tender at the end of March, the OAIC purchased 700 thousand tons of wheat at a price of $272/ton C&F.
