In October, Ukraine exported 7 million tons of agricultural products, 61% of them through the grain corridor

Thanks to the operation of the grain corridor, in October 2022, Ukraine increased the export of agricultural products by 1% compared to the previous month to 7 million tons, of which 61% were shipped from Black Sea ports.

Compared to September, the export of agricultural crops in October changed as follows:

  • grain crops - increased by 3% to 4.5 million tons (of which 49% was corn, 43% - wheat, 7% - barley),
  • oil crops – decreased by 8% to 1.2 million tons (56% - rapeseed, 26% - sunflower, 19% - soybean),
  • vegetable oils - decreased by 8% to 498.5 thousand tons (91% - sunflower oil, 4% - soybean oil),
  • cakes - grew by 14% to 434.1 thousand tons (90% - sunflower, 10% - soybean).

Now, when the operation of the grain corridor is under threat of disruption, it is very important to continue its operation, because farmers are harvesting and ready to actively export it.

Thus, the further export of corn, the harvesting of which is very slow, will entirely depend on the fate of the grain corridor. In the event of its closure, corn may remain "overwintering" in the fields, since there will be no point in harvesting it.

If the volume of exports decreases again, this will lead to an even greater reduction in the area of sowing than can be observed now, since domestic farmers will not be able to carry out economic activities against the background of lack of funds and low prices for agricultural products.

In general, Ukraine exported 12.913 million tons of grain and leguminous crops in the 2022/23 financial year as of October 31, in particular, 4.221 million tons in October, while last year these figures were 19.41 million tons and 5.047 million tons, respectively.

Compared to the same period of the previous season, exports decreased:

  • wheat - from 12.371 to 4.936 million tons,
  • barley - from 4.475 to 1.087 million tons,
  • rye - from 55.5 to 6.2 thousand tons,
  • of corn - increased from 2.315 to 6.843 million tons.
