In the first half of 2023/24, Ukraine exported 430,000 tons of sugar

According to customs statistics, in the first half of 2023/24, Ukraine exported 430,000 tons of sugar, which is 60% more than the corresponding figure of the previous season. In particular, in March, the export of sugar increased compared to February from 75 to 81 thousand tons, while in March 2023 it amounted to only 48 thousand tons.

If in 2022 and 2023, almost all sugar exported from Ukraine was delivered to EU countries, then after the introduction of restrictions on the supply of Ukrainian sugar to Europe, exporters began to sell it to African and Asian countries, in particular through the deep-sea ports of the Black Sea, analysts note.

In 2023, 1.8 million tons of sugar were produced in Ukraine. Given the internal consumption of sugar within 1 million tons, its export in the current season may exceed the indicators of previous years and reach 700-800 million tons. At the same time, EU countries will be able to purchase no more than 300-400 thousand tons of Ukrainian sugar.
