Ukraine and Poland are working on an agreement on joint customs and border control

Against the background of blocking the border between Ukraine and Poland, the governments of both countries are actively working on issues of joint customs and border control and mutual licensing of export of agricultural products.

On Friday, technical consultations were held before the signing of the agreement on joint customs and border control, after which the Polish side will send the document for consideration by the European Commission.

Currently, many issues arise in cooperation with Poland, in particular, very problematic ones, for example, the continuation of the agreement on the liberalization of freight transportation, which is a guarantee of the survival of the Ukrainian economy. The European Commission plans to extend the agreement, adding certain changes to it, and expects proposals from other EU countries by tomorrow. For its part, Ukraine insists that the changes should not limit our carriers, and the work criteria should be transparent, understandable and measurable.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, currently the border is not blocked by carriers, but only by Polish farmers. At the same time, at the Nižankovychy-Malhovice checkpoint, where 800 trucks have accumulated in the queue, the registration of cars in e-Cherz has been suspended.

The Minister of Agriculture of Poland Ch. Siekierskyi hopes that soon Ukraine and Poland will introduce mutual licensing of export of agricultural products, which will protect the country from the negative consequences of the supply of goods from Ukraine.

According to the MSG of Poland, already in 2024, more than 600,000 tons of Ukrainian agricultural products transited through the country, including 90,000 tons of wheat, 370,000 tons of corn, and 200,000 tons of rapeseed.

Since February 9, Polish farmers have blocked the border with Ukraine, demanding a ban on the import of cheap agricultural products from Ukraine, increased support for national livestock production, and the cancellation of the EU's "Green Deal" strategy, which envisages reducing carbon emissions to zero by 2050.
