In 2022, the Ukrainian ports of the Danube increased the transshipment of grain by 42 times

For 300 days, Ukraine has been resisting Russian aggression on all fronts, and the small ports on the Danube, which were the only access to the sea from the beginning of the invasion and until the conclusion of the "grain agreement" in July, also contribute to the future Victory. Through the ports of Reni and Izmail, grain was transported by the Danube to consumers or ports in Romania, where it was transferred to ships. Since the beginning of the year, the volume of grain transshipment through the Danube ports has increased by 42 times compared to the same period last year.

According to the data of the Port Organization Department of the SE "Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine", in the 11 months of the current year, the ports of Reni, Izmail, Ust-Dunaisk handled 14.5 million tons of cargo, which is 294% higher than last year's corresponding indicator. Thus, during the specified period, Izmail increased its cargo volume by 210.6% to 7.7 million tons, Reni by 508.3% to 6.1 million tons, Ust-Dunaysk by 1314.7% to 662 thousand tons.

The first position in terms of transshipment volumes in the nomenclature of cargoes is occupied by grain and oilseed crops, which were processed at 6.1 million tons, or 42 times more than in 11 months of 2021.

In the current year, 24% of the total volume of shipments through seaports of Ukraine was transshipped through the Danube ports. Despite the fact that these ports have used all their available capacity for transshipment, they still have the potential for further development, as the modernization of the port infrastructure, dredging, and the construction of new terminals will allow to increase the volume of shipments.

At the moment, the Danube ports continue to work actively, given the delay of the arrival of grain corridors of ships to the ports of the Black Sea.
