Turkey is actively increasing imports of sunflower oil and meal

According to Oil World, in February compared to January, Turkey increased its imports of sunflower oil from 69 to 128 thousand tons, sunflower meal from 148 to a record 218 thousand tons, and sunflower seeds from 11 to 25 thousand tons.

The largest suppliers of sunflower oil in February were Ukraine (78 thousand t), the Russian Federation (39 thousand t) and Romania (6 thousand t), and sunflower meal - the Russian Federation (108 thousand t), Ukraine (101 thousand t), Romania (6 thousand t) and Bulgaria (3 thousand t).

Experts note that since January, Turkey has significantly increased imports of sunflower oil and meal to compensate for the reduction in its own processing.

In general, for the period of September - February 2023/24 of the MR, Turkey reduced the import of sunflower seeds from 534 to 134 thousand tons, sunflower oil - from 588 to 491 thousand tons, while it increased the purchase of sunflower meal from 422 to 573 thousand tons, compared to the same period of the previous season t.

At the same time, thanks to significant domestic reserves, the export of sunflower oil in February increased compared to January from 49 to 67 thousand tons, of which 15 thousand tons were shipped to Ethiopia, 9 thousand tons - to other African countries, the rest - to Lebanon, Syria and Saudi Arabia .

The total export of sunflower oil in 2023/24 MR already amounted to 379 thousand tons compared to 351 thousand tons for the corresponding period of 2022/23 MR.
