Despite the blocking of the grain corridor by the Russians, Ukraine exceeded last year's export volumes

According to the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure of Ukraine, starting from June 26, there are 29 ships in the queue in the territorial waters of Turkey, which are supposed to export 1.4 million tons of Ukrainian agricultural products to 5 countries in Africa and Asia, in particular to China, Egypt, Bangladesh and Turkey.

In June, only 2 million tons of agricultural products were exported through the Black Sea ports, and another 1 million tons is in the process of being loaded onto the last 13 vessels registered in the grain initiative. The Ministry reports that if the registration of vessels is not extended, the grain deal will be completely stopped.

According to the State Customs Service, in 2022/23 FY as of June 30, Ukraine exported 48.996 million tons of grain and leguminous crops (of which 3.658 million tons in June), compared to 48.355 million tons in 2021/22 FY.

At the same time, the export of the main agricultural crops decreased compared to the previous season:

  • wheat - from 18.72 to 16.836 million tons,
  • barley - from 5.747 to 2.704 million tons,
  • rye - from 161.5 to 18 thousand tons,
  • and only corn grew from 23.409 to 29.128 million tons.

At the same time, the export of flour in 2022/23 MR increased compared to the previous season from 70.7 to 153.6 thousand tons, in particular wheat - from 69.2 to 147.1 thousand tons.

According to the forecasts of the Institute of Agricultural Market Conditions (IKAR), in 2022/23, Russia will export 60 million tons of grain, of which 47.7 million tons will be wheat. In the new season, grain exports will amount to 55.5 million tons, provided the weather conditions in the east of the country improve. Global grain traders - Cargill, Viterra, Louis Dreyfus will stop exporting Russian grain and their activities in the Russian Federation from July 1, so they will be replaced by state-owned companies, which will negatively affect domestic prices and competitiveness.
