The Ministry of Agriculture of Romania allowed licensed operators to import grain crops from Ukraine

The Minister of Agriculture of Romania, Florin Barbu, announced the project developed by his department, which will allow Romanian operators to import grain crops from Moldova and Ukraine, but only after obtaining licenses for this.

On September 15, the European Commission canceled the ban on the import of four types of agricultural crops from Ukraine to neighboring EU countries, but obliged the Ukrainian authorities to take measures to control exports. After that, the governments of Slovakia, Poland and Hungary announced that they would extend the ban unilaterally. Romania has warned that it may ban imports for 30 days if it receives import requests from Ukrainian producers.

"The import of grain from Ukraine and Moldova will be allowed only to Romanian farmers and processors, and only on the basis of licenses. The authorities, as promised, will protect Romanian production and farmers," Barbu said on his social media page.

He added that the relevant bill has already been drafted and will be approved at the next government meeting, as the country's authorities are ready to take any measures to protect the country's domestic market and local farmers.
