The European Union has sharply increased the import of oil from Ukraine

In the current season, EU countries have sharply increased the import of rapeseed and sunflower seeds, the main batches of which are supplied by Ukraine. This is reported by APC-Inform with reference to the data of experts of the European Commission.

Thus, in the 2022/23 FY as of March 12, compared to the same period of the previous season, the European Union increased the import of rapeseed by 57% from 3.6 to 5.7 million tons, of which 2.86 million tons or 50% of the total import was delivered from of Ukraine.

Australia seasonally increases canola supplies, and in 2022/23 MR has already delivered 2.3 million tons of oilseed to the EU, or 41.2% of total imports. It is possible that Australia will replace Ukraine among the leaders in the supply of rapeseed to the EU.

At the same time, sunflower imports by EU countries in the 2022/23 FY increased compared to the same period of the previous season by 438% to a record 1.9 million tons, primarily due to deliveries from Ukraine, which accounted for 1.66 million tons or 87% of total imports. This is 95 times higher than the import of the previous season, which amounted to only 17.5 million tons. Therefore, in 2022/23, Ukraine became the undisputed leader among sunflower suppliers to the European Union.

It is worth noting that at the same time, in 2022/23, Ukraine reduced the volume of exports of sunflower processing products to the EU, in particular palm oil, by 13% to 1 million tons.
