The European Parliament agreed to extend the regime of duty-free trade with Ukraine

At the meeting on April 23, the deputies of the European Parliament, with 428 votes in favor, agreed to the continuation of temporary trade liberalization measures with Ukraine. 131 deputies voted against, 44 abstained.

The adopted decision extends the suspension of import duties and quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products for one more year. At the same time, it provides that the European Commission can take the necessary quick measures in its opinion, if the import of Ukrainian agricultural products will lead to violations on the EU market or individual EU member countries.

So, in order to protect the interests of European farmers, the European Commission may introduce emergency restrictions on the supply of sensitive types of agricultural products (in particular, poultry, eggs, sugar, cereals, oats, honey and corn), if their import volumes exceed the average import rate for the period of the second half of 2021 and 2022 and 2023 years.
