The increased demand increases the price of barley

Reduction of the harvest of barley in Ukraine in the season 2017/18 increased export demand, prices in the port rose to the level 167-168 $/t. Traders do not have the ability to accumulate significant export volumes, as farmers store barley in the farms and the harvest late grains and oilseeds.

Additional factor of price growth was the increase in the purchase price of the next tender in Saudi Arabia. The Agency SAGO acquired 540 thousand tons of feed barley producing countries, EU, black sea, Australia, North and South America 212-216 price $/t FOBports of the red sea and 220-221 $/t FOB-ports in the Persian Gulf for delivery in November – December of the current year.

01.01.2018 into effect the decision of the European Commission, which significantly increases the annual quota of duty-free imports from Ukraine in the EU barley and maize.

With the beginning of 2018, the domestic exporters will be able duty-free import into the EU:

• 1,075 million tonnes of maize (against 450 thousand t in 2017),
• 1,025 million tonnes of wheat (against 960 thousand t in 2017),
• 595 thousand tonnes of barley (versus 270 thousand t in 2017).
