In Ukraine, wheat is harvested on 72% of the area, and forecasts of a record harvest are confirmed

Last week, it rained in Ukraine, which somewhat delayed harvesting in the West and in the center. However, this week the dry and warm weather will allow you to complete the harvesting of early cereals.

As of August 5, domestic farmers from 7.4 million hectares or 46% of the area threshed 32.2 million tons of early grain and leguminous crops with a yield of 4.35 t/ha (last year, on this date, 56% of the area was threshed, and the yield was 3.89 t/ha), in particular:

  • wheat from 5.1 million hectares or 72% of the area was harvested 23.4 million tons with a yield of 4.55 t/ha (3.98 t/ha last year),
  • barley from 2 million hectares or 79% of the area was harvested 8.048 million tons with a yield of 4.12 t/ha (3.76 t/ha last year),
  • peas from 208 thousand hectares or 86% of the area were harvested 472 thousand tons with a yield of 2.27 t/ha (2.2 t/ha last year).

In addition, 2.1 million tons of rapeseed with a yield of 2.67 t/ha were harvested from 788 thousand hectares or 78% of the area.

Farmers of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions have completed harvesting of early grain and leguminous crops and rapeseed, and threshed 3.2 million tons of grain each. The highest grain yields were recorded in the Khmelnitsky and Volyn regions – 6.06 and 6.05 t/ha, respectively, where 14% and 32% of the area is still threshed. The best rapeseed yield was obtained in the Poltava region – 3.95 t/ha and Ivano-Frankivsk region – 3.57 t/ha.

Against the background of high wheat yields in the southern regions and taking into account the traditionally high yield in the central and western regions, forecasts of the wheat harvest at the level of 31-32 million tons are increasingly likely.

The pace of grain exports is gradually accelerating, and as of August 6, Ukraine shipped 3.629 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, which is 390 thousand tons higher than last year's figure. However, this growth is due to an increase in corn exports from 0.5 to 1.05 million tons and barley from 1.062 to 1.312 million tons compared to the corresponding period of the previous season, while wheat exports decreased from 1.67 to 1.25 million tons.
