The pace of sowing winter wheat in Ukraine and Russia is higher than last year

Favorable precipitation at the end of September and dry weather in October allowed us to accelerate the pace of sowing winter wheat in Ukraine and Russia, which is already ahead of last year. The sown area under winter crops will increase due to the high procurement prices for barley and wheat.

According to the agriculture Ministry, as of October 5, Ukraine sowed winter crops of 5.08 million hectares or 71% of the planned 7,205 million hectares, in particular:

barley – 376 thousand hectares of the planned 872 thousand hectares,

the rye – 105 thousand hectares of the planned 147 thousand hectares.

• wheat – 4,599 million hectares of the planned 6,184 million hectares,

in addition, at that date winter rape sown 987 thousand hectares of predictable 888 thousand hectares, whereas at the same date last year it was sown to 804 thousand ha. we will Remind that in 2017, agrarians have sown winter rape to nearly 1 million hectares in the forecast, 776 thousand hectares.

In Russia, according to the agriculture Ministry, as of October 5, were sown with winter crops 15.3 million hectares or 88.9% of the forecast against 14.5 million hectares on this date in 2017. the Urals, the Volga region, Siberia and North-West plans Showa has exceeded. It is expected that the acreage of winter cereals in 2018 will increase to 90 thousand hectares to 17.2 million hectares. Recall that in 2017 due to adverse weather, planned 17.4 million hectares of winter crops were sown only 17.1 million hectares, including wheat – to 15.3 mln ha, rye – 1.1 mln ha, barley – 547 thousand hectares.

According to estimates by the staff of the weather Bureau, 40% of seedlings of winter crops are in good condition, 60% - satisfactory.
