Sunflower prices grow amid declining crop forecasts

In Ukraine, as 30.10.17 with 5,607 million hectares (94% of area) harvested of 10.98 million t of sunflower seeds with an average yield of 19.6 t/ha sunflower Crop in the current season will be significantly lower than projected by the experts 12 million tons.

During September-October, processors were buying sunflower delivery factory 10600-10800 UAH/t due to the high price of sunflower oil, they had a good margin on the processing, but not in a hurry to raise the procurement price of sunflower. Now the reduction proposals, forcing processors to increase the purchase price to attract volume.

In Russia the purchasing prices for sunflower for 2.5 months fell 17% to 285,9 $/t (16600 rubles/t), which was the lowest price in 2014. But in the last week they have increased by 300-500 RUB/tonne in the southern regions and 50-100 roubles per tonne in the European part.

Experts IKAR estimate the yield of sunflower in the range of 11.1-11.2 million tonnes in bunker weight.

In Russia as 01.11.17 with 5.3 million ha (67.3% of the acreage for harvest) and produced 8.1 million tonnes of sunflower seeds with an average yield of 1.54 MT/ha (2016 – 1,59 t/ha).
