Romanian wheat wins tender in Egypt for the fourth time

The decline in prices for Black Sea wheat continues, and importers are increasing the pace of purchases, and exporters are also trying to sell as much as possible at high prices against the background of increased harvest forecasts, fearing further price declines.

Competition between sellers in the Black Sea region is increasing, putting pressure on prices, primarily due to Romania, where farmers are more actively reducing prices against the background of crop growth this year.

Egypt actively enjoys increased competition and buys the cheapest volumes of wheat on the market, and for the fourth consecutive tender, this is only Romanian wheat.

Russia, Ukraine, Romania and Bulgaria in the 2021/22 season together can harvest the second largest crop in modern history – more than 123 million tons. tons of wheat (in 2017, the record was 128.25 million tons). tons), and supply the world market with a record volume of wheat – 67.7 million tons. T. wheat production in Bulgaria and Romania Together is expected to exceed 15.5 million tons. tons, against 11 million tons last year and 16 million tons in 2019.

Yesterday, at the next tender in Egypt, again the largest number of offers was Romanian wheat, and it is worth noting that the prices of the cheapest offers of Romanian wheat decreased by 6 6/ton, while the prices of offers of Ukrainian wheat decreased by only 2 2.7/ton, and for Russian wheat remained at the same level as at the tender on July 5.

As a result of the tender on July 14, the grain agency of Egypt (GASC) bought 180 thousand tons of Romanian wheat, the three cheapest batches offered, with delivery on September 11-20 at an average price of F 231.88/ton FOB, which is 6 6.5/ton lower than in the previous tender on July 5, and the cost with delivery was 4 4.5/ton lower and averaged C 265.32/ton C&F.

 Total was purchased:

  • 60 thousand tons of Romanian wheat from CHS companies at a price of F 231.88/ton FOB, or C 266.88/ton C&F.

Recall that at the previous tenders on May 24 and June 28, 240 and 180 thousand tons of Romanian wheat were purchased, and on July 5, 180 thousand tons of Romanian wheat and 60 thousand tons of Russian wheat were purchased.

The cost of freight for the supply of wheat to Egypt from the ports of Romania is less than from Russia and Ukraine, so the cheapest offer of Romanian wheat with delivery to Egypt was 1 14.3/ton cheaper than the offer of the cheapest Ukrainian wheat.
