The European Commission has reduced the forecast of grain production in the EU by 5%

According to the forecast of the European Commission, the grain production in the EU in 2018/19 MG will be reduced in comparison with the previous season by 5% to 284,3 ml tonnes, which is 8% less than the average 5-year index.

the Main reason for the adjustment became arid weather conditions in the Northern regions of Europe in the summer and a reduction in the acreage of cereals by 0.6%. Thus, the sowing area of wheat and barley decreased by 3%.

According to the European Commission, the gross wheat harvest in the EU in comparison with the last MG will decrease by 9% to 129 million tonnes, in particular, in Germany – 18%, Poland – 14%, Latvia 33%, Lithuania – 29%. In addition, the harvest of durum wheat will decrease this season by 8% to 8.6 million tonnes.

Production of coarse grains will be reduced in comparison with the previous year:

corn – 6% to 62.1 million tons.
