EU may increase the import duty on maize from USA

the European Commission reiterated the intention to increase to 25% import duty on U.S. corn in response to the entered trump duty on steel and aluminum with the EU, reports AgriCensus.

for the First time about such intentions, the European Commission announced in March, and in early may introduced American corn to a previous list of goods for which likely increased the import duty.

According to USDA during January-December 2017 the United States exported to the EU only 707,36 thousand tons of maize, and the main suppliers of grain to the countries of the EU are Ukraine and Brazil.

the Increase in duty can boost exports of Ukrainian maize in the EU in the first quarter of this year declined slightly under pressure of cheaper American grain.

According to the European Commission, during the July-may 2017/18 MG EU countries imported 15.8 million tons of corn, which is 40% higher than the previous MG.
